Computer Upgrade Decisions – SSDs
This week we are thinking about Solid State Drives AKA Solid State Disks (SSDs)! We have been chatting with our in-house celebrity Nicholas Culbertson about the Solid State of Drives. For him, there is no question, he thinks SSDs are the best choice. If you recall computer interactions from the not so distant past, you could hear the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) spinning and clicking. SSD aren’t a traditional hard drive because they don’t spin nor do they have moving parts. An SSD stores data in microchips and accesses/manages the data with a controller.
Farquhar Tech has been installing lots and lots of these Samsung 850 EVO SSDs over the past few months. It is the industry’s #1 best-selling SSD. When you call us to upgrade your laptop or desktop, we will take a clone of your computer so that your software, settings and files will be exactly the same after the upgrade. If you are in the market for a new laptop, pay the extra and get the SSD.
- Off the wall longer with less demand on laptop battery power
- Faster, way faster, 20+ times faster at critical tasks than a hard drive (top green and red lines = SSD)
- More durable, handles normal laptop wear and tear better – No spinning
- 25% lower failure rate means you found a more reliable workhorse
- Your stealth factor just blew up with these low noise levels
* Those of you who take lots and lots of video and photos, stick to the Hard Drive. SSD is expensive when working with lots of big files and the capacity might not be available in the size you need.
