I beg of you, back up your S#$!

back up your data

I’ve been consoling a good friend on the loss of the only hard drive that housed their family’s photos. A failed hard is nearly impossible to recover and if that’s all you got it can be a sad day when it fails. But here’s the thing, we know it’s gonna fail. We know its a mechanical part that really has a serviceable life of about 5 years — after that you’re playing roulette with oftentimes irreplaceable data.

I know I sound like a broken record; another blog nagging you to get you external hard drive fired up, get your cloud backup in order, and stop using archaic CDs and DVDs to save important things. But here’s the deal, as more and more of our lives are digitized, we become more dependent on the technology around us working without interruption. While, as a technician since high school, I am here to tell you computers break! And when they do its the snapshot video of your child’s first step that is lost.

There are so many great solutions for protecting your data and archiving for the long term. Cloud solutions such SkyDrive and Dropbox, independent offsite backups, automated syncing software, and network attached storage devices can all ensure you are protected. I’d be happy to help you make the best choice, give a shout.

And for the love of everything holy: Back your s#$! up!
